An urban metropolis surrounded by wilderness, Anchorage provides all the amenities and conveniences of a large city, but leaves behind the normal congestion and hectic pace of cities outside of Alaska. There are several shopping malls, specialty shops, gourmet coffee houses and fine restaurants.

When you have stocked up on supplies head off into Alaska, probably one of the last frontiers. Visit glaciers, see fjords, mountains and forests. Wildlife spotting is a popular pastime – you may see moose, caribou, bears and eagles. If you head for the coast you can also take whale watching trips.
